Background
History of music making in Nigeria saw the efforts championed by the pioneers. You can conclude history of gospel music in Nigeria without mentioning Lorine Okotie. She did her best in the field before saturation of the niche. She is the sister of the pop singer turned pastor, Rev. Chris Okotie. She hit the Nigerian scene with beautiful gospel lyrics in the late 80's with a hit track titled "Love is the Medicine" then suddenly she disappeared and has since not returned till date. Maybe she is the choirmistress in her brother's church.

Career
Lorine’s talent for singing was unexpectedly noticed by her father, the late Chief Francis Idje Okotie, when she was just eight years old. One morning, as she went about her chores singing, her father happened to hear her and was amazed by the melodious and angelic quality of her voice.

To confirm his observation, he asked Lorine to sing for her eldest married sister, who visited a few weeks later. Sister Jane was equally enchanted by her angelic voice and presented her with a special gift.

As the years went by, Lorine chose to pursue a music career, releasing a circular album titled "Single Girl", as she had not yet become a born-again Christian. This album was produced by her elder brother, Wonder Boy Chris Okotie, who at the time was a renowned circular music icon.

After dedicating her life to Christ and becoming born again, Lorine felt a calling to sing for the Lord. Her first gospel album, "Love Medicine", was an immediate success, establishing her as a household name.

The album was also produced by her elder brother, who had by then become a preacher, teacher, and Minister of the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ, Rev. Chris Okotie, Founder and Pastor of the Household of God Church.

Additionally, the album was co-produced by the talented multi-instrumentalist and songwriter, Fortune Otega. Despite the collaboration, the hit track "Love Medicine" was written and produced by Rev. Chris Okotie.

Lorine Okotie stepped away from the music scene for several years to explore personal endeavors and experiment with other interests. She has now returned with renewed passion to inspire lives and spread the gospel, releasing new songs such as "Jesus Is The Answer" and "Meaning Of Life" across all digital music platforms worldwide, with more tracks planned for the near future, all to the glory of the Lord God Almighty.

Personal & Current Situation
Lorine Okotie is alive, and as per her 2011 interview: she lives a relatively quiet life centred around faith — attending church, keeping away from glamor or public scandals.

She described herself as spiritual, committed to gospel ministry through music, and cautious about personal exposure.

Details about her parents: her father died when she was still young, and her mother left the family when she was young as well. She grew up, in part, under the care of her older brother Chris, who helped support her education and upbringing after their father’s death.

She has said that it was her brother’s earlier success and his later turn to faith  that influenced her own decision to embrace gospel music.

Discography / Known Tracks
Love Medicine (Album, 1990) includes “Love Medicine”, “Jesus I Love You”, and other songs.

Recently (2025) a single: “Jesus is the Answer” showing that she remains active, at least sporadically.

Because of her long hiatuses and limited public activity, there is no comprehensive discography available.

Influence & Legacy
Lorine Okotie is credited with giving Nigerian gospel a more modern/pop‑inflected voice at a time when gospel music was often more traditional or choir‑based.

Her hit “Love Medicine” remains nostalgic for many listeners of early‑90s gospel/pop in Nigeria.

Her career though intermittent shows that gospel singers from that era could transition to a more contemporary sound and still retain spiritual depth.
