The song was off his last studio Project album Confrontation (1983) released after Marley's death. The song was written by Bob Marley and Noel King Sporty Williams and Recorded by Bob Marley's Band The Wailers. 

The song was inspired by Black U.S calvary regiments (The Bufallo Soldiers) that had a survival battle in the American Indian Wars after 1866. Bob Marley envisaged their fight as a Symbol of Black Resistance.
