Chief (Dr) Joseph Ikechukwu Mbaezue or J.I Mbaezue (1938 - 2010) was a dedicated, expertise and revered Civil Engineer and general contractor who hails from Ihiala in Southeastern Nigeria.

He was also known as JIMBAZ (JIMBAZ NIG LTD). Some of the project his company handled has inscription of JIMBAZ, his company. Through the assistant of the federal government and state, he successfully executed many edifices such as markets, schools, hospitals, hotels, bridges and several public institutions. His late father Chief Mark Mbaezue, a retired teacher died in 1996 while his mother died in 1980. He was based in Enugu till his death in 2010. 

Some of the structures he built were  famous Ọchanja Market situated in Woliwo Community in Onitsha; Aba Shopping Complex, Asa Road, Aba; He built and donated the famous JIMBAZ building at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka Campus where the biological sciences domiciled. Anyone who passed through the UNN or knows its environ cannot miss knowing the great JIMBAZ building.

Plus several other public structures constructed by his company across Nigeria and West Africa. He was one of the great postwar pillars of support for Ìgbò people and the people of Ihiala Kingdom.

The first civil engineer from Ihiala and one of the first Ìgbò civil engineers produced in University College Ibadan. He built Old Modetel hotel Owerri for late Alex Ekwueme and all the Cooperative Banks in South East Nigeria.

He also built the Cooperative Bank building on Old Okigwe Road Owerri. That is the bank building opposite Government house bus stop or Library bus stop in Owerrri Imo State.

One of the Ìgbò greats who are unsung but with great accomplishments. One of those who shaped what is the modern-day urban spaces of Ìgbòland in Nigeria.
