No doubt having Mr Mekoyo as among hardcore figures who were part of revolutionized recording studio craft in Nigeria. Mr Mekoyo's input still echo in the industry because of his undieing passion, dedication and sacrifice which can be envisaged in works of soul music group, Styl Plus among others.
Career and Family:
Mr Mekoyo career journey and achievement is a testament of determination, dedication and 'catch them young'. They're just two in the family, Mekoyo and his elder sister. Mekoyo whose mother works as an accountant with American Embassy and father doubles as a professor and musician started music making in his teen.
His father has a musical band in Kaduna and would often display his talents on stage, that was how Mr Mekoyo subconsciously nurtured his musical skills coupled with the fact that he uses his father's musical instruments, the journey becomes somewhat easier. His father speared his time tutoring enthusiastic Mekoyo how to play guitar, piano, etc which landed Mekoyo in choir as a keyboardist where he developed serious interest in musical affairs and later, he met Mike, owner of Sea Martin's Recording Studios so he learnt most things from Mike's studio. Mekoyo who is a graduate of Mechanical Engineering, University of Nigeria Nsukka began music professionally late 1996 at a popular studio in Asokoro, Abuja.
During Mr Mekoyo's early journey, Styl Plus approached him for production of their musical projects and luckily their acquaintance earned Mr Mekoyo popularity due to his topnotch works for the soul music group, Styl Plus especially in "Olufunmi'.
Mr Mekoyo had worked for musicians like - Six Foot Plus, Princess Lola, Faze, Black Face, Sydney Sparrow, Deborah Enenche, Samsong, Vector, Asu Ekiye, Dr Paul Enenche, Daniel Wilson, Dr. Becky Enenche, Elijah Oyelade, Solomon Lange, Deborah Rise, Late Keffi among others even beyond Nigeria (International).
The friendship between Styl Plus and Mekoyo grew stronger although it was all about music production. Mr Mekoyo also torched inspiration behind his hit single "Okoro", according to him the track was inspired by ugly relationship experiences of his peers while schooling at Nsukka, some of his friends who were businessmen do sponsor their girlfriends in high institutions with hope of matrimony and unfortunately get turned down of their marriage proposals. Their girlfriends citing that they are too young to marry old men (their sponsors).
Mr Mekoyo's last album was dished out on 24th February, 2023 titled 'My Shiel' via D Mekoyo Entertainment Independent Label'. Today, Mekoyo is a musical producer, instrumentalist, vocalist, songwriter, and sound engineer, now focuses more in gospel music.
