According to Reports sighted by Throwback Times in Sun Cast News 24 indicate a major breakthrough in the long-awaited efforts to create a new state for the South-East region of Nigeria. Reliable sources confirm that Etiti State and Anioma State have been shortlisted, with one of them expected to officially emerge as the 6th State of the South-East and Nigeria’s 37th State next year.
The approval, reportedly concluded during a high-level engagement in Lagos, marks one of the most significant steps in correcting geopolitical imbalance affecting the South-East since 1996.
At the National Assembly, the push for the new state gained momentum from two influential southeastern lawmakers:
Hon. Amobi Ogah, who sponsored the Etiti State proposal at the House of Representatives.
Senator Ned Nwoko, who sponsored the Anioma State creation bill at the Senate.
A circulating photo shows both lawmakers exchanging warm greetings shortly after federal lawmakers unanimously endorsed the continuation of the state creation process at committee level. However, only one of the two proposed states will be selected at the final ratification stage.
Reacting to the development, Fidelis C. Kene, Coordinator of the Nigeria Professional Wrestling Federation (NPWF), and Clearing and Forwarding Agent issued a commendation statement praising both lawmakers for their “historic commitment to restoring regional equity.”
“We extend heartfelt appreciation to Senator Ned Nwoko and Hon. Amobi Ogah for boldly championing the cause of the South-East. Their dedication has rekindled hope for fairness, development, and representation for our people,” he said.
“This progress is not just political it is generational. It holds promise for jobs, infrastructure, identity, and pride.”
