Olowu Aiyedun Emmanuel has issued a bold call during an interaction with staff of Throwback Times Nigeria, urging Nigerians to unite and demand the establishment of a National Ransom & Victim Compensation Trust Fund in response to the worsening insecurity crisis.
According to him, the Nigerian government has failed in its constitutional duty to safeguard the lives and property of its citizens, while choosing instead to intimidate and detain individuals who speak against its failures. With kidnappings, killings, and forced ransom payments rising across the country, he insists that Nigerians must now demand a practical and immediate solution.
He called on the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), civil society groups, labour unions, student bodies, professional associations, and all democratic forces to press for the creation of the fund.
Olowu Emmanuel argued that since the government cannot secure its people or protect the nation’s borders, it must be compelled to pay ransoms on behalf of victims and provide not less than ₦500 million in compensation to any family who loses a loved one to terrorists, bandits, kidnappers, or armed robbers.
“Nigerians deserve more than condolences. We deserve accountability, justice, and protection. It is time to demand it,” he declared.
Olowu made the call due to rising cases of insecurities and insurgency in the country. Nigeria has currently challenged with unbearable security issues with many calling for it's dissolution.
