Lt. Colonel Shaibu, COAS

In a circulatory news sighted by Throwback Times. It was allegedly that Nigeria Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt Colonel Shaibu has said that if Nigeria Youths refuse to join the Army, we will make It mandatory for everybody from the age of 18 and above to Join.

He further allegedly that "The 10,000 We Recruited Last Year Are Nowhere To Be Found". The controversial report has been circulating online. This is coming after insecurities surge in Nigeria particularly the terrorist activities. 

The Army Chief was said to declare this while begging Nigerian youths to join the military to help combat rising insurgency. In another report, it was noted that Nigerian army Chief of Staff allegedly denied uterring this statement.

The Nigerian Army has denied claims that the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, threatened to make military service mandatory for citizens aged 18 and above if youths refuse to join. The army described the report as "Fake News" and stated that the statement attributed to the COAS is entirely false.

According to the Nigerian Army, there are no plans to make military service compulsory, and citizens interested in joining are encouraged to follow official channels for voluntary enlistment.

It's worth noting that the Nigerian Army has been expressing concern over the low enlistment rates among youths from the South-East region, with Enugu State receiving only 100 applications out of 200 available slots in the 2025 recruitment exercise.
