Throwback Times Nigeria has learned that Nigeria’s Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, has debunked reports claiming he verbally attacked U.S. President Donald Trump over his recent military threat to Nigeria. Akpabio described the viral post as fake, malicious, and the work of an unscrupulous blogger trying to drag his name into a diplomatic controversy.
In a statement issued through his media group, Akpabio expressed total shock at the fabricated publication, which alleged that he made critical comment against Trump following the U.S. president's declaration of possible military intervention in Nigeria over the continued killing of Christians by terrorists especially in the Northern Nigeria.
The Senate President stated clearly, “Who am I to respond to President Trump? I never made any such comment. It’s pure falsehood designed to cause confusion and put me in trouble.”
Disturbed by the attempt to mislead the public, Akpabio has petitioned the Nigeria Police Force and the Department of State Services (DSS), calling for a full investigation to identify and prosecute the individual behind the fake news. He stressed that such deliberate misinformation not only damages reputations but also threatens national peace and international relations.
Akpabio urged Nigerians and media platforms to always verify information before sharing, warning that fake news spreads faster than truth and can have serious consequences. He further appealed to the public to disregard the circulating news.
The incident comes amid global attention on Donald Trump’s remarks about possible U.S. military involvement in Nigeria religious crisis, a statement that has generated widespread debate.
