Correspondents of Throwback Times has gathered reports of allegedly secret plans to sentence IPOB Leader, Nnamdi Kanu to death or condemn to life imprisonment. A Nigerian activist, blogger and politician, Omoyele Sowore, has issued a strong warning to the public, disclosing that the Tinubu-led administration has allegedly cemented a secret decision concerning the fate of detained IPOB leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.
In a post shared on his verified social media account, Sowore alleged that the government has “long reached a hidden consensus” to either sentence Kanu to death or condemn him to life imprisonment, disguising the move under what he described as a “judicial procedure.”
According to Sowore, Justice Omotosho, who is presiding over Kanu’s case, is expected to conclude the trial by ruling that Kanu’s refusal to open his defence amounts to an admission of guilt — a move Sowore termed a “convenient interpretation” meant to finalize an already predetermined verdict.
He further revealed that the judgment is anticipated in November, drawing a chilling historical analogy to November 1995, when the Abacha military regime sentenced environmental activist Ken Saro-Wiwa and eight other Ogoni leaders to death — a verdict executed with brutal precision.
“Three decades later, Nigeria appears to be standing at the same moral crossroads,” Sowore wrote.
“Only the year has changed — this is 2025, not 1995 — but the machinery of repression grinds on. The trial of Nnamdi Kanu has ceased to be about justice; it is now a test of conscience for the Nigerian state and its citizens alike.”
The activist’s post has since gone viral, sparking widespread discussions and renewed calls for the release of Nnamdi Kanu, who has been in detention since 2021 following his controversial rendition from Kenya.
The hashtag #FreeNnamdiKanuNow continues to trend across various social media platforms, with citizens, rights groups, and pro-Biafra supporters urging the federal government to uphold justice and human rights.
As of press time, neither the Presidency, the Federal Ministry of Justice, nor Justice Omotosho’s court has issued any official response to the allegations raised by Sowore.
