Fresh security concerns have emerged following reports in social media platforms alleging that armed groups are positioning themselves strategically across parts of the Southeast and Southwest ahead of the festive season. Though authorities have not issued an official confirmation, the reports will certainly trigger public anxiety and renewed calls for heightened vigilance during the year-end celebrations.
Also another report by Throwback Times Nigeria in a separate but related development revealed the continued captivity of Ven. Edwin Achi of the Anglican Communion, Diocese of Kaduna, and his wife, Mrs. Sarah Achi. This has drawn wide condemnation. The couple, both natives of Umuaja in Ukwuani Local Government Area of Delta State, were kidnapped in Kaduna on 28 October 2025.
More than a month later, they remain in captivity. According to statements released by the abductors, a ₦600 million ransom has been demanded for their release. A photograph allegedly shared by the kidnappers shows the cleric, his wife, and several other victims, suggesting that the incident forms part of a broader trend of rising insecurity in the region.
Reacting to the situation, Harrison Gwamnishu, founder of the Safe City Foundation, issued an urgent appeal to the Federal Government, the Kaduna State Government, and all security agencies to act swiftly.
“This situation is unacceptable. Every day these victims remain in captivity is another day of trauma and uncertainty for their families and communities. The government must intervene immediately to secure their safe release,” he said.
Security analysts continue to urge residents across the country to remain alert, particularly during the festive period, while also calling on authorities to intensify intelligence gathering and rapid-response operations to curb potential threats.
