According to former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, Nigerians should be cautious about the potential impact of a proposed tax reform if the All Progressives Congress (APC) wins the 2027 general elections.
Speaking at a recent political gathering, Amaechi alleged that businesses could face heavy automatic deductions under a new tax regime.
According to him, by January or February following the 2027 elections, Nigerians particularly business owners may begin to feel the effects of the policy.
“By January or February next year, all of you will be in trouble if APC wins. Immediately after the 2027 election, APC will implement the tax law. Under this tax law, if I pay you ₦100 million for your building materials, ₦25 million will automatically leave your account,” he said.
The former Governor of Rivers State claimed the proposed framework would introduce automatic deductions on large transactions, potentially affecting contractors, suppliers, and entrepreneurs across various sectors.
Amaechi did not provide specific details of the tax bill but urged Nigerians to pay close attention to fiscal policies being proposed ahead of the 2027 elections.
