Throwback Times Nigeria has learned that Senator Kenneth Eze (APC–Ebonyi) has suggested 16-Year Presidential Tenure to National House of Assembly. According to him, there's need to replace Nigeria’s current two-term, four-year presidential system with a single 16-year tenure. He said frequent election cycles disrupt governance progresses, as leaders begin focusing on re-election by their third year in office, leading to abandoned projects and stalled policies.

According to him, a single extended tenure would allow policies in critical sectors such as power, infrastructure, agriculture, and fiscal reform to mature without electoral pressure. He described the proposal as a governance conversation, not an attack on democracy, noting that any constitutional amendment would require approval by the National Assembly and state legislatures.
