Throwback Times Nigeria have sighted emerging reports following an assassination attempt on former labour party presidential candidate, sir Peter Obi in Benin City.
Tensions reached a boiling point following an attack on the convoy of former presidential candidate Peter Obi and other political leaders.
Social media activist Charles Awuzie has publicly called on the Nigeria Police Force to investigate Steven Tom, revealing he is the mastermind behind the Gunmen attack.
It can be recalled that on Tuesday, February 24, 2026, gunmen reportedly targeted Peter Obi, John Odigie-Oyegun, and chieftains of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
The attack occurred as the group moved from the ADC Secretariat to the private residence of Chief Odigie-Oyegun in Benin City. The Gunmen fired shots at the residence's gate and vandalized several vehicles, including smashing SUV windscreens.
While the Edo State Police Command confirmed the disruption, they stated that no lives were lost. One woman sustained injuries during the stampede, but she has since been treated and discharged.
The leaders were in Edo State for the formal declaration of former NBA President Olumide Akpata into the ADC.
Also reminiscing about the Governor Okpebholo's ban on Peter Obi to avoid stepping his foot into Edo State without his approval or his life will be at risk.
Reports revealed that son of Niger Delta figure HRH Ateke Tom—is currently at a hotel in Lagos and should be arrested immediately for using his X handle (formerly twitter) to promote and threaten to assassinate Peter Obi.
Meanwhile social media users has said that Nigerian Police is likely to keep mum on assault threats fulfilled by Ateke Tom's Son, Steven Tom, this is the height of how Nigerian systems has fallen, social media users protested.
