The leadership of Agunechemba has ordered an immediate statewide halt to all operations of the Anambra Vigilante Group (AVG), warning that defaulters will face arrest and prosecution. The announcement was made in Awka by the Governor’s Special Adviser on Community Security, Ken Emeakayi, who stated that the law establishing AVG has been repealed, making any activity under its structure illegal.
Emeakayi revealed that Agunechemba structures are now fully operational across all 21 local government areas, rendering the continued use of the AVG name unlawful. He added that local government chairmen will be formally directed not to recognise or collaborate with any group operating as AVG.
All private security firms have been instructed to register with Agunechemba in line with the Anambra Homeland Security Law, 2025. A joint screening committee comprising the Police, DSS, and NSCDC has been set up to vet operators and ensure compliance with state regulations.
The Police also cautioned security operators against employing individuals with questionable character and warned against arming poorly paid personnel. Authorities said that all armed operatives must be properly registered and monitored to ensure accountability and prevent misuse of weapons.
