Throwback Times Nigeria has obtained reports about latest development as Boko Haram has released an obituary for one of its videographers and cameramen, identified as Abu Salim al-Barnawi, who was reportedly killed by Nigerian soldiers during an attempted attack on a military formation in Borno State.
The terrorist group reportedly published a three-minute, three-second video narrated in Arabic, showing the deceased operating a camera and participating in several of the group's activities before his death.
According to the Acting Military Information Officer of the North-East Joint Task Force, Operation Hadin Kai, Capt. Muhammed Goni who said that Abu Salim al-Barnawi had previously led raids into Cameroon before later joining Boko Haram's media department as a cameraman and videographer.
Capt. Goni also revealed that the terrorist was killed during a failed assault on a Nigerian military camp after troops successfully repelled the attack. He added that the group subsequently released an obituary tribute.
Earlier this month, troops of Operation Hadin Kai announced the neutralisation of an ISWAP cameraman during a failed infiltration attempt in Cross Kauwa, Kukawa Local Government Area of Borno State. During the operation, soldiers reportedly recovered a Sony camcorder, ammunition, terrorist uniforms, and other combat-related items.
The military also disclosed that materials recovered during the operation indicated the presence of foreign fighters supporting the terrorist group, including individuals identified as a Palestinian Arab trainer and a Moroccan Arab serving as a medical doctor.
The Nigerian military has maintained its sustained counterterrorism operations across the North-East, targeting insurgent strongholds and disrupting their operational and propaganda activities.
