Hon. Omonlei Yakubu
According to reports made available to Throwback Times Nigeria, Hon. Omonlei Yakubu Imadu has stressed over the growing impact of corruption, poor leadership and institutional failures on Nigeria’s development, warning that the country’s decline is happening gradually across critical sectors. In his opinion, a nation does not become a failed state overnight but deteriorates when leadership recruitments, affairs prioritises personal interests over competence, integrity and accountability. He argued that the appointment of unqualified individuals to strategic positions, coupled with lawmakers pursuing personal interests rather than public welfare, has weakened governance and undermined citizens’ confidence in public institutions.
Imadu while still lamenting same happenstance in Sports sector, further stated that the judiciary, law enforcement, healthcare, education, agriculture and regulatory agencies as sectors severely affected by corruption and inefficiency. He lamented that injustice, alleged exploitation by officials, insecurity, inadequate healthcare services and poor educational standards continue to threaten the well-being of Nigerians. He also expressed concern over the growing involvement of young people in cybercrime, attributing the trend partly to limited legitimate employment opportunities, while warning that corruption in public procurement has turned infrastructure projects into opportunities for personal enrichment rather than meaningful development.
Describing the situation as a national reality which demands practical attention rather than a political argument, Imadu called for a fundamental change in leadership values and institutional practices. He urged those in positions of authority to prioritise competence over personal relationships, public service over private gain, and national development over selfish ambitions. According to him, Nigeria needs responsible and visionary leaders across every sector who can restore public trust, strengthen institutions and deliver meaningful progress. He concluded with a question that captures his frustration with the country’s challenges: “Where is the Messiah?”
